Are you interested in being an Omani Paws volunteer?
The following sections describe the different opportunities available. If you are interested in these roles, or in any others, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators. Rescue Every day, we receive reports of animals in Oman that need our help due to injury, health problems, abusive individuals, or other unsafe conditions. Many times, our volunteers take action, find the animal in distress, catch it, and bring it to an animal clinic or other safe place. This activity usually takes place during daylight hours, but occasionally a nighttime rescue is necessary. We are looking for people who have experience catching and handling animals, and are up to the physical exertion outdoors, sometimes in challenging locations. Foster We place cats and dogs in Foster homes as a temporary place before they are adopted. Some of our animals require special care, recovery from injuries, or they are just too young to be adopted. As a Foster caregiver, you are expected to have a safe indoor space, and it often helps if you have other animals who can socialize your Foster animal. The duration of Foster care can be a few weeks, or up to 6 months, depending on the needs of the animal. To be a Foster caregiver, you should be confident about your abilities. Adoption Ambassador Due to the animal welfare situation in Oman, we must be proactive in seeking out "forever homes" for the animals in our care. This is not the sole responsibility of the Foster caregiver. We need people who are outgoing and communicative, to promote animal adoption and to connect people in Oman with Omani Paws. Also, we welcome the opportunity to connect with animal rescue groups around the world, especially those interested in re-homing Omani Wadi Dogs. Sometimes, we go to special events, where we show some of our animals, and we need help talking to interested people at these events. Local Driver Sometimes, we just need a driver, who has the time and an appropriate vehicle that can be used to transport animals, from rescue sites, to take them to an animal clinic, or to take them to/from an adoption event. Vehicles like SUVs and Vans are appropriate. International Travel Buddy We have relationships with animal rescue groups in other countries. Sometime, animals are temporarily left behind when a family moves away from Oman. We frequently look for people who are doing international travel, and are willing to act as a travel buddy. We make all the arrangements, including delivering the animals to Muscat Airport check-in. All you need is a ticket to the desired destination, where someone will meet you to take the animals after you clear customs. Our most frequent destinations are the US and European countries. Support Omani Paws Financially Omani Paws depends on the generosity of our volunteers to help us with the costs of animal care and transportation costs. We are not a registered charity, so we don't accept donations directly, but we do accept financial help at animal clinics that maintain accounts for us. From time to time, we will make an appeal for help, and we thank everyone who has been so generous. This article describes the basics about travel with your pet, to and from Oman. We have compiled a list of airline links, and we give some guidance about the import and export procedures.
About Vaccines Rabies is mandatory for cats and dogs. Most countries require the rabies vaccination date to be at least one month before travel. DHPPi is for dogs, which covers Canine Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo virus and Para-influenza virus. Lepto is for leptospirosis in dogs. Core vaccines for cats are feline panleukopenia (distemper), feline viral rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus, and rabies. In most cases, the full set of vaccines can't be administered until the animal is 4 months or older, so it is difficult to meet requirements for very young pets. Standard vaccination practice varies a bit from country to country, so it is wise to always check both the export and import requirements, and consult with your Vet. Importing a Dog or Cat to Oman (April 2017) To bring a dog or cat into Oman, you must meet the following requirements:
Exporting a Pet from Oman To export a dog or cat from Oman, you must meet the following requirements:
